Portugal you say?

Charlotte and Charlton have a special place in my heart. I have had the pleasure of capturing some of their awesome milestone moments… maternity shoot, newborn shoot, cake smash, family lifestyle shoot. So what was next? Well a wedding in Portugal of course, on the beach!

As the wedding was in Portugal, there were lots of communication between myself and the duo, sorting flights, accommodation etc. Having a UK based photographer may have given them a bit more to organise but the peace of mind Charlotte and Charlton had, knowing their photographer, was invaluable.

So the date was set for 13th September 2018. Two days before this, I was on a plane with the singer, guitarist and a few guests heading out to Portugal. Arriving a couple of days ahead of the wedding allowed me to recoup some energy for the big day and also have a recce around the venue and local area for some inspiration and perfect spots.

Getting ready

Charlotte’s morning preps took place in the Vidamar Algarve Villas which were super luxurious! So much space and natural light, I was in love! Thanks to Charlottes relaxed vibe, the morning was a pleasure. Make up was done by Marisa Francisco and hair by friend Tracy. Her stunning dress was by Maggie Sottero from Morgan Davies Bridal Hitchin.

Charlton and the lads were grooming themselves in the Vidamar Hotel. His suit from Moss Bros was the perfect colour and style for a beach wedding. He got a lovely reception from all his guests when he made his way downstairs to escort them down the boardwalk to the beach.

Heading to the beach

Charlotte was picked up in a golf buggy and whizzed round to the top of the boardwalk. Whilst it may not have been the best surface for heels, the walk was pretty epic as far as aisles go! Gemma Samuels sang Charlotte’s entrance song whilst Jason played guitar, beautiful sights and sounds for all the guests sitting on the sun drenched beach.

The couple said I Do, with sand between their toes and the waves rolling in in the background. I’ve never known such an idyllic setting.

After some gorgeous group and couple shots on the beach, we all headed up to the hotel, where the tables were set in between rows of palm trees. Kids ran around bare foot and the adults drunk and nibbled their way through the afternoon.

Just before the meal, I took Charlotte and Charlton back down to the beach for some stunning sunset shots. Portugal well and truly delivered.

Paaaaaarty!

As the sun set and darkness made the fairy lights twinkle, everyone ate and drank some more. Speeches followed the meal, which went so well. And then, party time!

Oh boy, did this bunch know how to work the dance floor. Helped by the über lovely and incredibly talented, Gemma, the guests shook their stuff to the live music. The first dance was no exception either. Charlotte and Charlton wowed the crowd with their choreographed routine.

I had the most amazing time, literally. It wasn’t like work at all. The nicest of people and the most beautiful of places. I was plied with drinks and got some booty shaking time of my own before I hit the sack.

Not forgetting the epic pool jump the following day, with the couple wearing their wedding clothes… oh yes!

Portugal, Charlotte, Charlton – you were all just the best!

If you’re planning a destination wedding, I would love to hear from you. Nicki Shea Photography
