'Lifestyle' Newborn Session - How to Prep

Firstly, thank you very much for chosing me to capture your newborn baby, pretty awesome privilege!

So, this shoot is much less about posing a newborn and relying on them being asleep and more about you and your baby in your home. Quite often a newborn shoot is only about the baby. I think it’s hugely important to be included in these moments too, after all, you created them!

I capture feeding baby, giving them a bath, changing them, snuggling on the sofa with them and even sipping on that cold cup of tea whilst they lay swaddled beside you.

We will use a mixture of rooms during the shoot. The lounge, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom all have possibilities and they create different backdrops and various options.

It doesn’t matter if baby is awake or asleep, it’s quite nice to get a mixture of the two but it’s not essential. The idea of the shoot is to just capture what happens.

Equally, it’s the same for baby being clothed. Generally a newborn shoot doesn’t involve clothes (only for the baby of course!), but for the lifestyle option, we can do a mixture of both.

Another tip usually given, is to try and have baby well fed before the shoot starts but this is not a requirement with this shoot as we can capture baby feeding. It is, after all, something they do a lot of!

I would recommend having a good old tidy before I come (like you haven’t got enough to do with a newborn, I know!!) but your house is going to be on show in the images, so give it a little treat if needed.

Also, natural light is key. I don’t like to use flash for my newborn shoots. However, if your home is dark (not many/small windows, low ceilings, tree’s outside blocking windows etc) then it is sometimes necessary. Ceiling and wall lights create an orange/red hue on the images, so I don’t use these. Natural light is always best, flash is a last resort.

The shoot will last between 1-2 hours and include five digital images of your choice to download. They take place on weekdays and can be between 9:30am and 2:30pm. This shoot is ideally aimed a babies under one month.

Payment is in cash, on the day of the booking. A £40 deposit secures your booking. Once ready, images will be available to view on a secure online gallery for a period of four weeks. Once you have made your selection, add them to your favourites folder within your gallery and then I can prep them for download.

It would be great to pop a few sneak peeks on my photography page for you once the shoot is complete. Let me know if you are happy with that?

I look forward to seeing you soon. Any questions, please get in touch.
