Here's what you need to know about your cake smash session...
Firstly, thank you for booking me. I am going to help make your little one pretty much as messy as you are ever going to see them!
A cake smash is such a great way of celebrating your baby’s first birthday in a memorable and fun way… and you get some pretty awesome shots to remember it all by too.
The idea of the cake smash is for it to be as baby led as possible. Let them explore the cake in their own time and create their own mess. I find they do better when left to their own devices. Having said that, if we have a ‘no mess baby’, then a little encouragement is absolutely fine.
The less clothing, the better. Don’t feel like you have to dress your child up in their Sunday best for this shoot. In fact, completely the opposite! The more cake you see squidged between their toes and stuck to their belly, the better. Feel free to take a look through my sample cake smash pictures for inspiration but generally, shorts and some funky braces (no top) for boys and a tutu or ruffled pants for girls (no top). Feel free to customise with bow ties and party hats if you think they will stay on! And obviously, it goes without saying that if for any reason you would prefer them fully clothed, that’s completely your choice and fine by me.
The session are held at my home address (124 Mead End, Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, SG18 8JX) where I set up a back drop and a basic party setting (bunting or pom poms, balloons etc). If you have a specific setting in mind, you will need to supply these items. I am all for personalising shoots, so feel free to run things by me if you have any queries. You can opt for a package with or without a cake. The cake that is provided is a buttercream iced, giant cupcake (colour options available). Any personalising, intricate designs, multiple colours, change in cake type etc will incur an additional charge. It is highly recommended that if your child has any allergies, you source the cake yourself. For the bakers out there, feel free to bring along your own cake. My only advice is to make sure the icing is nice and soft and squidgeable (!) so that we can get super messy! Royal icing just doesn’t have the same effect!
The shoot last approximately 30-45 minutes and includes your choice of five digital images to download. Your gallery will be available to view for four weeks once the images are ready.
Your little one will (hopefully) be very messy at the end of the shoot, so pack some baby bath and a towel as they can have a dip in the bath before getting dressed and going home. And for you, wear something old, you will get cake on you!!
